Picturesque Mountains and Thrilling Waters Create Unique Outdoor Adventures in Reno – Tahoe
“No two outdoor adventures in Reno – Tahoe is ever the same,” says Attorney Jesse Kalter. One of the reasons he fell in love with the Reno – Tahoe area was the great access to so many exciting outdoor activities. It’s less than an hour’s drive to skiing or river rafting and both offer scenic views found nowhere else in the world. With diverse, active wildlife and an ever-changing landscape, you never know what you will find. Whether this is your first time to the area or you’re a local, taking on these outdoor activities in Reno – Tahoe is guaranteed to provide an adventure you won’t soon forget.
Outdoor Adventures in Reno – Tahoe You are Sure to Enjoy
1. Mountain Biking
By far, this is Jesse Kalter’s favorite outdoor activity in the Reno – Tahoe area. With such mountainous terrain, it is one of the most accessible activities for novice and experienced mountain bikers. Novice trails can be found across Reno in some of the city parks, such as Mira Loma, Hidden Valley, and downtown running parallel to the Truckee River. More advanced trails can be found in the mountains of Reno and across the Tahoe basin. Some great trails to try are the Tahoe Rim trail and the South Yuba Trail. Many of the bike trails across Tahoe run next to or end at a craft brewery and bar. These trails are commonly referred to as “ale trails.” Finally don’t forget the bike park at Northstar Resorts in Truckee, CA. Northstar has some of the most challenging and exciting trails around the country.
2. Rock Climbing
The view from the top is always better and mountain climbing is the shortest distance to get there. Basecamp in downtown Reno offers one of the world’s tallest man-made climbing structures, reaching all the way to the top of the Whitney Peak hotel. There are also several climbing areas around Lake Tahoe that offer thrilling challenges rewarded by endless tracts of beauty. Big Chief, Twin Crags, and Donner Summit are some of the best destinations for beginners and advanced climbers.
3. Whitewater Rafting
Running right through the heart of downtown Reno is the Truckee River. Its beautiful crystal-clear waters start at Lake Tahoe and wind their way all the way to Pyramid Lake. This 121-mile stretch of river offers exciting rapids as well as slow gentle rides. There are several companies available to help find the ideal spot for various skill levels. Companies like Tahoe Whitewater Tours or Tributary Whitewater Tours will be happy to take you where you want to go.
There are miles and miles of BLM sand and dirt trails surrounding the Reno – Tahoe area. Hunter Lake Trail and Peavine OHV trail are a short trip from downtown Reno. Both are amazing trails with breathtaking scenes, but you will find the Hunter Lake Trail a little more challenging to traverse. Around the Tahoe National Forest, you will find more than a dozen off-roading trails ranging in distance from 4.5 miles to 35 miles. Some of the best trails are the famous Rubicon Trail, Bowman Road trail in Alta, California, and the Mount Watson Trail in Tahoe City, California. All ATV vehicles are welcome, including SUVs, four-wheelers, and dirt bikes.
The higher elevations of the Reno – Tahoe area coupled with regular snowfall create a skiing season that lasts from November to April, and sometimes even longer. The versatile terrain of the Sierra Nevada Mountains has slopes for beginners and experts alike. Skiers from around the world come to this area to find powder like nowhere else. Some of the best ski slopes can found at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, Northstar Resort, and Sugar Bowl Resort.
Protect Your Family Before Your Outdoor Adventures with Comprehensive Estate Planning
One of the most thrilling aspects of outdoor adventures in Reno – Tahoe is the inherent danger. Nothing gets the adrenaline pumping like the idea of flirting with the “edge.” Whether you are skiing or mountain biking, you probably implement safety precautions, but unfortunately, accidents can still happen. If something traumatic does happen, who is going to take care of your loved ones? Will they be able to access your assets to help pay for hospital bills or final arrangements without having to go through a stressful court process?
If you haven’t taken the time to plan out your estate, then your money and all your assets will be passed down to who the State of Nevada wants it to go. Without proper estate planning, the court will decide which of your heirs receives what assets and how much. Proper estate planning is key to making sure this doesn’t happen.
