Don’t Drink and Drive is the Simplest Way to Avoid a DUI this 2022 Holiday Season

With more and more pandemic restrictions easing, holiday parties and gatherings are almost certain for most Nevadans. Beer, wine, and alcohol are usually central to many of these get-togethers. It can be very easy to lose track of the number of drinks you have consumed on such a joyous occasion. Eventually, the party will end, and you will have to go home. Don’t let a bad decision like drinking and driving after a party end up in a DUI.

A DUI is a serious offense in Nevada. Avoiding a DUI this 2022 holiday season could be the difference between having happy holidays or experiencing tense, uncertain holidays. A DUI could result in loss of your license, heavy fines, community service, and even jail time. All of which could make the holidays especially difficult for anyone.

Follow These Tips to Avoid a DUI this 2022 Holiday Season

1. Find Someone to be Your Designated Driver

One of the best ways to avoid a DUI this 2022 holiday season is to let someone else who is older do the driving for you. If you are going with a group of friends or family to a holiday event, designate someone to drive everyone around. Make sure you choose someone that is dedicated to the responsibility of staying sober.

2. Use Public Transportation

The bus, cabs, or public ride sharing services, like Uber or Lyft, are great ways to avoid a DUI. It won’t be free, but it will cost a lot less than the penalties associated with a DUI.

3. Eat Plenty of Holiday Dinner

Food, especially grains, absorb alcohol sitting in your stomach. This reduces your blood alcohol content by giving your liver a chance to process the alcohol you have already consumed.

4. Stop Drinking Early

It takes an hour for your body to process one beer, one shot of alcohol, or one glass of wine. So, if you must drive home, it is a good idea to stop drinking early. This particular tip to avoid a DUI this 2022 holiday season will only work if you have only had two or three drinks. Drinking excessively doesn’t leave much time to sober up and it’s best to find an alternate way home.

5. Give Someone Else Your Keys

If you don’t have your keys, you can’t use them. It will be very inconvenient, and you may not remember giving your keys away. However, the headache of tracking a ride home will be less than having to deal with a DUI arrest.
